After the 1997 Hong Kong handover to China the Hong Kong-Chinese government introduced Mandarin as the compulsory second language offered to students instead of English. Shortly after this rule was introduced, the younger Hong Kong Chinese generation's spoken English skills horrifyingly decreased and the need for Native English teachers rose more...

“Four weeks in Costa Rica with TEFL International and I began teaching in my hometown of Woodburn, Oregon, not long after I got off the plane. I started a language class at the farm worker union as a volunteer, and in three months I was hired by the community college. I teach an intensive three-hour evening course for 20 students, five days a week, designing my own curriculum and materials. more...

When I decided to take a TEFL course I was a recent college grad and I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. I knew I wanted to travel and I picked the Kolkata location on a whim. I think I read an article on “Incredible India” and booked my flight a few weeks later. more...

My first job post-graduation was as a contract temp at a multi-national energy conglomerate. The pay wasn't bad, but I felt sick to my stomach nearly every day because everyone around me was totally obsessed with money. All I wanted to do was quit, but then I remembered the endless stacks of applications, the unreturned phone calls, and the resumes that, I presume, went directly into the "circular file." more...

I took the TEFL International course in Phuket in 2003 and then worked at a Middle school in Thailand until March 2005. From April 2005 to April 2006 I taught at a language school near Bangkok, and then from Sept 2006 to July2008 at two universities near Shanghai in China.  The TEFL International TESOL course got me off to a good start and allowed me to develop my teaching over the years. more...

As I may have mentioned, the reason I am in Zhuhai is to take a four week intensive training program which will certify me to teach English.

The program is administered by an organization called TEFL – which gives the same program in 16 different countries. In fact I could have taken the TEFL program in New York, but being in China is a lot more fun! Even though I do not have any immediate plans to teach – I thought with my desire to continue to travel it might come in handy. Besides - the techniques could be helpful for giving business lectures.more...

I chanced upon doing my TEFL course in Ban Phe, Thailand right after my 21st birthday before I entered university. It was one of the best decisions I made in my life. The friends I met and the memorable experience I had during my course there had been one of my sweetest memories in my life.

I appreciate what you do, and all the students you help to become teachers.
I am always amazed at the confidence of University graduates teaching a language, usually their own, English, from USA, with poor grammar and pronunciation.  But they have the confidence of the 'innocent' (that is a nicer word for 'ignorance'). more...

I completed my TEFL training in Ban Phe in 2007 and went to work at a school in Kaowong, Thailand. From there I secured a position (on the strength of my TEFL) as a primary school teacher in Vientiane, Laos. I am currently teaching Grade 6 students; I love my school and they seem to love me. I am in my second year of teaching there and my boss wishes to renew my contract.
