Our TEFL training course in Mexico is located in the southern state of Chiapas which borders Guatemala to the east, the Pacific Ocean to the south and the Mexican states of Tabasco, Veracruz and Oaxaca to the north and west. Our training centre is based in the small colonial town of Chiapa de Corzo which is a quiet and traditional town that provides our trainees with an authentic Mexican experience that they will never forget.
Although small in size, there are still plenty of things to see and do in the town and the surrounding area. Tuxtla Gutierrez, the state capital, is only 20 minutes away and provides many of the facilities you would expect from a large modern city such as bars, restaurants, cafes, cinemas and shopping areas, as well as a variety of museums and other cultural attractions.
In your free time there are plenty of other places to visit such as the old state capital of San Cristobal de las Casas which is beautifully situated in the mountains and is considered to be the cultural capital of Chiapas. The city still maintains a Spanish colonial atmosphere, with cobblestone streets and many old buildings set around the central plaza area. The city also has many different market areas selling a wide range of locally made handicrafts and is a great place to get a taste for the local culture.
Another highly recommended place to visit during your stay with us is the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Palenque which is home to world renowned Mayan ruins that date back to the 1st century BC. The site was abandoned around the 8th century and was slowly reclaimed by the surrounding jungle where it stayed hidden until its rediscovery and subsequent excavation in recent years.
There are also several stunning waterfalls in the area that are easy to reach from the training centre; El Chiflon and El Chorreadero are just two of these beautiful areas that are well worth a visit. We also recommend that you take advantage of the free activities that are put on by the cultural centre in Chiapa de Corzo, the Casa Escuela de Tradiciones organises regular workshops based on local traditions and handicrafts.
Getting to our training course in Mexico should be straightforward as Tuxtla Gutierrez has a modern international airport that receives direct flights from many countries. Alternatively, you can fly to Mexico City from almost anywhere in the world and then take a short internal flight to Tuxtla Gutierrez. For those who prefer to take their time, there are countless buses that will get you here from all over the country.
You are welcome to take advantage of our free pick up service from the airport or bus station in Tuxtla Gutierrez as long as you have paid your course fees in full prior to your arrival.
