Phuket (pronounced Poo-ket) is a tropical paradise island referred to locally as the ‘Pearl of the South’. It is the biggest island in Thailand and is situated about 800 kilometres South-West of Bangkok in the beautifully clear Andaman Sea. This island has something for absolutely every visitor, including internationally renowned beaches, temples and palaces, jungles, mountains and nearby islands.
It would be impossible to list the attributes of the numerous idyllic beaches this island has to offer, whether it is the lively, crowded beach of Patong or the more peaceful Surin beach on the North West side of the island. Islands close to Phuket include Kho Phi Phi (subject of the movie ‘The Beach’), James Bond Island (‘The Man with the Golden Gun’) and Raya Island. These islands and many more are within easy reach of Phuket which runs regular, cheap ferry services from the pier in Phuket Town.
For nightlife you would find it hard to beat the delights of the various clubs and bars of Patong. But there are fantastic restaurants, bars and street vendors offering a hugely diverse array of delicious food throughout the entire island. Students who attend our TEFL course in Phuket simply cannot help but have an enjoyable and rewarding experience. In your spare time why not take a SCUBA diving course, go snorkelling, kayaking or windsurfing, horse riding, bungee jumping, elephant trekking or hiking. Apply today and experience our TEFL course in this beautiful and exciting location.
The climate of Phuket tends to be hot and humid in the day with cooler nights all year round. Temperatures average 80-90°F (27-32°C). The rainy season lasts from July to the beginning of November with persistent but brief showers mainly in the afternoons. For the majority of the day it is nearly always clear and sunny with fantastic sunsets making this a very attractive location in which to take our course.
There is a large population of Westerners (farang) resident on this island contributing to the province having the highest per capita income in the whole of Thailand. The cost of living here is therefore higher than the rest of the country but is still a lot less expensive than living in the West.
